Straight lines, perfect symmetry and perfect circles are not found in nature. Nature has imperfections, and her imperfections can have a pleasing effect on the mind, so why not apply them to drawing. If you feel you cannot draw that straight line, don’t worry about it. It’s not a problem that should hold you back.

One way to prevent smudging is to place a spare sheet of paper under your hand as you draw. This also stops the oil from your skin getting onto the surface.

Rotate Your Paper – Some lines are just really hard to draw in a certain direction so you have to rotate your paper.
Connect the Dots – Try putting down a bunch of dots on your paper, then connecting randomly. Don’t be concerned so much with stopping in the right place at first, just try to hit the dot you’re aiming for.
Alternatively you can try drawing two dots close together, master connecting those, then increase the distance more and more.
